While I am a member of an enlightenment school of Taoism, my school does not put much emphasis on the word enlightenment. Instead, the emphasis is on learning about the mind and how to use it properly. The mind has three levels, intellectual, emotional and intuitive. Most people, probably 90% or more, operate using the intellectual level, only occasionally using the emotional or intuitive level. The "enlightened" mind, or "hybrid" mind, is one that can use all three. One way to develop the intuitive level is to take a moment to notice the atmosphere of each place you walk into. Does the place feel happy or unhappy? Friendly or hostile? Welcoming or hostile? If you've ever looked to buy a house, you've felt some that make you feel uncomfortable, some you feel like the house was built just for you, and others you have a neutral feeling about. Notice that feeling every time you visit someplace new. Even in your own home, you can ask yourself, "Do I prefer the bedroom to the living room? Is there a difference between how I feel in the dining room and how I feel in the kitchen? " You might be surprised at how much this can help you use your intuitive mind more. Feel free to comment. I welcome intelligent discussion. If you're interested in learning more about the Four Ascendant Spheres Purity Adept School of Taiosm, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have, and I can provide a link where you can find out even more. And don't worry, in the tradition of Taoism, they don't ask for or accept donations, and the only email you'll get is their newsletter, but only if you sign up for it.
